We will be working with LMFT Alexandra Mooradian to provide/prepare lesson plans and curriculum. She will teach lessons, conduct classroom observations and teacher consults will also be done to ensure the lesson plans are on target with the needs of the students and teachers. Alexandra will also be in contact with Principal Sanan Shirinian to make sure the program is running well and student needs are met.
Note: this is not a crisis program and is not a replacement or substitute for complete psychological services. No testing, interventions, or psychotherapy will be done. This is a proposal for In-Class Social Skills (Pscyhoeducation) Groups only.

Weekly 30 Minutes course

Social schools groups will be taught in-class on a weekly basis…the class length with be 30 minutes. Grades K-6 will be taught every week, and Pre-K will be taught every other week
For a typical week in k-6, this will translate to:  7 classes, .5 hours each for a total of 3.5 hours of instruction, with 1.5 hours for classroom observation and teacher consults.

For a typical 4 week month this will equate to:

  • K-6: 14 hours instruction
  • Pre-K: 1 hour instruction
  • Class Observation/Teacher Consults: 6 hours
  • Total Hours: 21 hours
Different goals will be set appropriately for each grade level after some observation and consultation has been performed. Overall goals include:
  • Developing healthy peer-relationships
  • Addressing issues of cliques, bullying, mean behavior
  • Encouraging positive action
  • Strengthening communication skills
Ultimately a happy child is more inclined to learn in school. Helping students develop coping abilities, communication skills, problem-solving skills, etc. to enhance their social-emotional wellbeing  will create a more productive learning environment.
Our teaching staff does a wonderful job of providing social and emotional support to our students- this program will offer a more formal and institutionalized process that will be led by an expert counselor who is trained to recognize concerning dynamics, body-language, social cues, and more.
As a small prek-6th grade private school, we are very fortunate to have minimal behavioral concerns among our students. This program is an opportunity to take our children’s social development to an exceptional place.
While it is commonly understood that these social skills are naturally acquired throughout a child’s schooling years, incorporating these lessons within the existing curriculum will truly give our students an advantage to succeed in a 21st century, collaborative society.
